The surgical process begins with washing the deceased with a disinfectant to remove any bacteria and keep those who come into contact with the body safe. Next, they massage the joints, close the eyes with a lid cap, and sew the jaw shut. This is so rigor mortice doesn't set the body in an unsavory way.

They then flush the body of any liquids left and replace it with a formaldehyde-based solution and open the body to embalm the organs.

Embalming is a process with two base steps. Surgical and cosmetic.

Surgical is the drainage of liquids left within the body and replacement with formaldehyde-based chemicals to preserve the body.

Cosmetic is the preparation of the body for viewing. dressing the body and placing jewelry then doing makeup to make the corpse more lifelike so it's less jarring for viewings.

This is done for funerals, transporting the body, and extending the time for a family to sort things out if need be.
